About CACL

CACL, Inc. is based in Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture, which is famous for its ku-Yaki pottery. CACL is a company based in Nohmi City, Ishikawa Prefecture, which is known for its kutan-yaki pottery. The company’s business is aimed at solving two problems: the shortage of people to carry on traditional crafts, and the limited work options and low wages for people with disabilities. So far, the company has produced art pieces and products made by joining pieces of porcelain together.

In the wake of the Noto Peninsula earthquake in 2024, we launched the “Stand with NOTO” project to create temporary workshops for Wajima-nuri craftsmen and create jobs for them as part of our efforts to support reconstruction. The “Rediscover project” was also launched. We also launched the “Rediscover Project,” a more advanced art project that combines Kutani Yaki porcelain shards with Suzu Yaki porcelain shards and Wajima-nuri techniques.

This time, we launched “KAKERA” as an experimental brand to explore and create products and materials using ceramic shards and other materials in order to redefine new values for traditional crafts and substandard items that might otherwise be discarded.

Brand Overview

Things that exist outside of the standards set by someone else. Things that for some reason are no longer useful and have been discarded. But at the same time, they are pieces for creating something, random contours born of nature, and opportunities for encountering a way of looking at things that we have never known before. We are a brand that creates various products and materials using such various “pieces” left behind in the world.

About the brand logo

At a workshop in Nomi, various people were asked to create a “K,” the first letter of “KAKERA,” by combining pieces of porcelain, and the accidental design was incorporated directly into the logo. In order to visualize the possibilities of KAKERA, we have adopted multiple logo ideas, and will continue to adopt logos in accordance with the products in the future.

Future Activities

Although not under the name KAKERA, we have sold Hashi Stand made of ceramic shards in the museum store in conjunction with an exhibition at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, as well as upcycled Kutani Yaki porcelain shards that were about to be discarded and collaborated with Yuko Nagayama Architects and other designers to create a terrazzo bench* at Tamagawa Takashimaya S-C. KAKERA has been exploring the possibilities of materials and products centered on porcelain shards, including the production of a terrazzo bench* for Tamagawa Takashimaya S-C, and the sale of plates made from Kutani porcelain shards at the Arflex Japan “Vessels and Lives Charity Frima. In the future, KAKERA would like to take on the challenge of creating new products using a variety of materials, not limited to porcelain shards.
