KAKERA, a brand of ceramic shards from Ishikawa Prefecture, announces its collaboration with Parfums Givenchy - Limited Edition Plates and Fragrance Packages Made of Ceramic Shards from the Earthquake and Tsunami
July.03.2025

CACL, which operates the new product brand “KAKERA” using ceramic pieces and other materials from Kanazawa, announced on July 3 an initiative with LVMH Fragrance Brands Co.
The plates for Givenchy’s premium fragrance “La Collection Partie Curie” de Givenchy will be created using Kutani Yaki porcelain pieces, and will be sold at limited events with department stores as works of art that can also be used as fragrance trays.
About the Collaboration Background
This plate is a special one-of-a-kind plate created by a Wajima lacquer craftsman outside of Wajima, using broken pieces of Kutani Yaki porcelain. This work, which was born from the unexpected opportunity provided by the earthquake disaster, is the result of the fusion of two different traditional techniques, Kutani Yaki and Wajima-nuri, and was completed after more than six months of prototyping, experimentation, and dozens of design verifications. The most significant feature is that the “chips” and “scratches” are not mere imperfections, but are reflected in the design, expressing the individuality and beauty of each piece. The interplay between Givenchy’s spirit of not imposing a single vision of beauty, but rather of evoking each person’s individuality and maximizing their natural beauty, and the five sensory elements of Japanese craftsmanship (fragrance, texture, and visual beauty) make this item a symbol of creative revival and technical succession that goes beyond the framework of mere traditional crafts and luxury. This product, a fusion of tradition and modernity, craftsmanship and brand value, is a new value proposition for the next generation.

About “KAKERA”
Things that exist outside of the standards set by someone else. Things that for some reason are no longer useful and have been discarded. But at the same time, they are also pieces for creating something, random contours born from nature, and opportunities to encounter a way of looking at things that we have never known before. We are a brand that creates various products and materials using such “pieces” that have been left behind in the world.

Representative Comment
We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to all those affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake of 2024 and to those who are still living in evacuation centers. The beginning of this collaboration dates back to the summer of 2024. When volunteers from Parfums Givenchy visited Ishikawa Prefecture to volunteer, they were deeply moved to see the shattered pieces of artwork that had been painstakingly created one by one by the hands of craftsmen. Givenchy, a French Maison that has inherited the spirit of couture, must not allow the earthquake to disrupt the wonderful craftsmanship of Japan. This is why we have decided to collaborate with CACL Co. We wanted to let as many people as possible know about the traditions of Ishikawa Prefecture and the current state of its craftspeople, and to support them. (Momo Kanayama, President of LVMH Fragrance Brands Co.)
Each broken piece of porcelain has its own story. The white porcelain is from Kutani ware before it was painted, and the black porcelain was entrusted to us by a Suzu ware craftsman. Even within the same white porcelain, each piece has a different luster and color. And it is the Wajima-nuri craftsmen who connect these fragments that would never have met before. Due to the Noto Peninsula earthquake, he had to leave Wajima, the place of production, and has continued to work with lacquer at his studio in Nomi City. On the reverse side of the plate, the beauty of the lacquer process, which is normally invisible, is preserved. This collaboration began when Mr. Kanayama, President of LVMH Fragrance Brands, and others visited our workshop in Noto City after the earthquake. The next day, they also participated in volunteer activities in Noto. I feel that Japanese craftsmanship and the spirit that LVMH Fragrance Brands values resonated with each other and led to this project. It was a first-time challenge, but after much trial and error, a unique and atmospheric work of art was born. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for this opportunity. We will continue to explore new forms of expression while respecting traditional techniques. (Junichi Okuyama, President of CACL)
