CACL Inc.’s “Rediscover Project” received the Silver Award in the Service & Architecture category of the Ishikawa Eco Design Award 2025, organized by Ishikawa Prefecture.

The award, determined through a public online vote, recognizes the project’s innovative approach and strong communication impact in connecting diverse people and creating new value from broken ceramic fragments under the theme “Rediscover Project – Toward a Diverse Society through Broken Ceramics.”

About the Ishikawa Eco Design Award

The Ishikawa Eco Design Award honors outstanding products and initiatives from Ishikawa Prefecture that contribute to building a sustainable society.
The award recognizes excellence in three fields — Product Design (Monozukuri), Service & Architecture (Koto-okoshi), and Education & Social Activities (Hito-zukuri) — focusing on contributions to carbon neutrality and climate action, Satoyama-Satoumi ecosystem preservation, resource circulation (3R), environmental awareness, and partnership-based efforts toward sustainability.

Comment from Junichi Okuyama, CEO of CACL Inc.

“As a company based in Ishikawa, we are deeply honored to receive this award. Ishikawa is a region rich in history and cultural heritage, but modern values sometimes lead us to discard things that still hold meaning.
We aim to challenge these assumptions and take on ideas that have long been considered impossible. Although this time we received the Silver Award, we will continue striving for greater heights and broader impact through our activities.”

About CACL Inc.

CACL Inc., headquartered in Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture, operates at the intersection of traditional crafts and social welfare. The company addresses two interlinked challenges: the shortage of successors in traditional crafts and the limited employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
CACL creates art pieces and products from ceramic fragments, giving new life to what would otherwise be discarded. Following the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake, the company launched the “Stand with NOTO” initiative to support recovery efforts by establishing temporary workshops for Wajima lacquerware artisans and creating new employment opportunities.
CACL also began the “Rediscover Project,” combining techniques from Kutani ware, Suzu ware, and Wajima lacquerware to unite materials and crafts that had never previously intersected. Works created from earthquake-damaged ceramic fragments were exhibited at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa.
In July 2025, the company launched “KAKERA,” an experimental brand exploring new value for traditional crafts and nonstandard materials through products and building materials. CACL has also initiated a collaborative project with LIXIL and Yuko Nagayama & Associates to carry the traditional landscapes of Noto into the future.

About the Rediscover project

The Rediscover project breathes new life into fragments of ceramics such as Kutani ware and Suzu ware—pieces damaged in the Noto Peninsula Earthquake or deemed nonstandard during production. By integrating these shards with techniques from Wajima lacquerware, the project bridges materials, crafts, and cultures that had never previously met, creating new forms of expression under the belief that “nothing is without value.”
Through diverse artistic practices, Rediscover Project continues to inspire new perspectives on how we see and relate to the things around us.
The project is currently participating in “Shaped by Many,” a collaborative exhibition with artist Otobong Nkanga at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, running until November 24, 2025.
